Wings Over Whales

With the shape of the peninsula reminiscent of the fluke of a whale, and the Kaikoura ranges rising up behind with their snow-capped peaks, it is here that your spectacular whale watching adventure begins.

As well as offering a unique perspective and the surroundings, whale watching by aeroplane offers an incredible opportunity to view whales and dolphins in their natural environment.

After a 15-minute pre-flight information and safety briefing, leave the ground behind and take to the air in a comfortable high-winged aircraft, allowing each person their own window seat and unobstructed views over the Kaikoura peninsula.

Kaikoura's distinctive coastline and picturesque township, with its mountainous backdrop is the perfect landscape for those wanting to experience a different perspective.

You may also fly over Kaikoura Peninsula and see evidence of Maori fortifications (Pa sites), New Zealand Fur Seals resting and the Kaikoura township itself. For some, conditions will allow a spectacular flight over the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges rising to approximately 2800m.

After the flight, relax in the Log Terminal for a quick coffee or ice cream (at own expense). An upstairs lounge looks over the sea and local mountains and a quaint gift shop offers mementos of your experience.

Tour concludes approximately 50 minutes from check-in, and returning back to Kaikoura Airport.
