South Coast & Northern Lights Mystery
Enjoy a full day of adventure and stunning scenery with this incredible day tour!
As you depart from Reykjavik on route to the Sólheimajökull Glacier, you will stop at the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, famous for the hidden pathway behind it. You will then stop at the powerful Skógafoss Waterfall where a short walk up a flight of steps will reveal one of Iceland´s most scenic views. After stopping at the Sólheimajökull Glacier, you'll head onto Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach. There the powerful Atlantic waves crash on the black sands. You will see the jagged basalt sea stacks and the huge basalt-column cave, which are a sight to simply take your breath away.
The final stop will be Vík. The village of Vík is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around the island. Despite its small size (291 inhabitants), it is the largest settlement at 70 km. After that, we head back to Reykjavík.
In the evening a search for the Northern Lights will be made, if weather allows. For many seeing the Northern Lights is the reason for coming to our northern island in winter. The Aurora is both wonderfully mysterious and magical, and once seen never forgotten. Also known as Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights is a mysterious natural phenomenon that is only visible from the far reaches of the northern hemisphere on clear nights between September and April
Iceland is the perfect place to go hunting for a glimpse of nature’s version of a fireworks display and this trip, led by expert guides, will take you out into the dark Icelandic wilderness, giving you the best chance to witness these magnificent dancing patterns in the sky. On the clearest nights you will see the lights swirling across the horizon in dramatic colours, shapes and sizes.
This is a seasonal occurrence and is heavily dependent on favourable weather conditions and clear skies. Your guides will track the weather across south western Iceland and then decide on the best route to take to give you the greatest chance of witnessing this phenomenon.
In order to give yourself the best opportunity to see the Northern Lights, it is recommended to book your tour for the first night of your trip to Iceland.
