Lanzarote Volcano Route

The Volcano Route is Lanzarote's most popular tourist attraction and a must for any visitor. Be prepared to walk through fire as you explore Las Montañas del Fuego (The Fire Mountains) and the Timanfaya National Park, where you will be able to experience several demonstrations of 'how hot' the area is.

The day starts with a trip to the southern part of Lanzarote, passing through the village of Uga towards the amazing Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains).

Travelling into the Fire Mountains, a photostop will be made where camels are kept (camel ride opportunity, not included in price).

As you follow the Volcano Route around the Timanfaya National Park, your will learn more about the volcanic eruptions that struck Lanzarote between 1730 and 1736, when more than 100 volcanoes, covering more than 50 km², rose up and devastated this part of the island (including several villages).

Every year, close to one million people visit this unique lava scape, which is home to a sea of colourful dormant volcanoes and spent cones.

Continuing south, you will be able to admire the 'Lava Coast' as well as a panoramic view of the El Janubio salt mines, where Lanzarote inhabitants worked in the past and of 'Los Hervideros', engraved in the rocks by the sea action and the wind erosion. At last you visit "El Golfo", the Green Lagoon.

The lunch stop will be in Yaiza, a tranquil village that has twice won the prize for being the loveliest village in Spain.

After lunch, you will cross the most important vine-growing area of Lanzarote, La Geria, a unique example of how a place has adapted and made good use of its land characteristics. There will be a stop in one of the typical wineries for a tasting session.
