Kings Canyon & Outback Panoramas from Ayers Rock

Travel into the heart of Australia on a Kings Canyon day trip from Ayers Rock. Your journey takes you to a classic outback cattle station at Kings Creek Station and reveals the amazing landscape of Kings Canyon. Make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon to be rewarded with marvellous views or explore the boulder-strewn canyon floor if you’re interested in something more relaxing.

After an early morning pickup from your Ayers Rock Resort hotel, watch as the desert comes to life on your journey to Kings Creek Station. Along the way, you might encounter local wildlife such as kangaroos, camels, wild horses and dingoes. The two-hour trip brings you to the enormous Kings Creek cattle and camel station, established in 1981 and covering 1,115 square miles (1,800 square kilometers). Experience daily life in the outback cattle station and relax with a breakfast that is said to be the best in the territory.

Located in the heart of Watarrka National Park, Kings Canyon lies in an ancient Australian landscape that is sacred ground for the Ulpanyali and Lilla people. Make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvellous views of Watarrka National Park. Follow the rim of the canyon, stopping to look down into the canyon gorge at lookout points.

Deep down between sandstone cliffs is a true oasis, the Garden of Eden. There is a natural spring waterhole surrounded by local and exotic plants and trees such as gums, bonsai looking trees and enormous prehistoric ferns, creating a truly unique landscape. The circuit walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts. It is recommended for those with a good level of fitness.

Alternatively, you may choose the more relaxing Creek Bed Walk. Your leisure stroll follows the rocky creek bed to a viewpoint of the canyon's impressive cliffs, and explores the rock-strewn valley floor.

Leaving the canyon, travel to Kings Canyon Resort, an oasis in the outback! Enjoy lunch (own expense), then relax in the afternoon and enjoy amazing outback scenery on the return trip to Ayers Rock Resort.
