Kaikoura Whale Watch Tour from Christchurch

Spend a day getting close to nature on a day tour that includes an award-winning Whale Watching cruise in Kaikoura, a stop off at a seal colony and even a winery visit with tastings.

Kaikoura is one of New Zealand's leading eco-tourism destinations and world-renowned for its variety of marine mammals including a variety of whales, dolphins and seals, all attracted to the area by the rich feeding grounds off the coast.

After being collected from your Christchurch hotel, sit back and relax as you travel north through the charming, rural pastoral scenes of North Canterbury to Kaikoura where the mountains meet the sea.

On arrival, transfer to a whale-watching boat and keep your eyes peeled for giant Sperm Whales, acrobatic Dusky Dolphins and other ocean-dwelling locals as they hunt for food and provide amazing photographic opportunities.

Back on land, you will have free time to explore and enjoy lunch before getting up close and personal with a colony of local fur seals as they bask on the rocks.

After being hunted almost to extinction in the early 1800’s, the New Zealand fur seal population is again growing, and Kaikoura is now home to over 2,000 of these noisy pinnipeds.

If that wasn't enough action, on the return journey to Christchurch you will get to stop at a North Canterbury vineyard and sample the Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and chardonnay that the area is famed for.
