Half Day Guided Sea Kayaking Marlborough Sounds

This paddling adventure is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty and magic of the Queen Charlotte Sound.

The intricate waterways of the Marlborough Sounds are a wonderland for sea kayakers and this paddling adventure is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty and magic of the Queen Charlotte Sound.

Upon arrival at Ngakuta Bay the guide will provide a safety briefing and gear check before participants paddle out of the bay and into the Grove Arm.

Glide past the bush clad shorelines and golden beaches that dominate the Grove Arm. The water can provide a dazzling display of colours in a thousand shades ranging from the brightest turquoise to the deepest green. The backdrop is a myriad of shades of green, from the overhanging native tree ferns, rata vines and beech trees. The wildlife is testimony to this magnificent environment, with seals, dolphins and penguins a common sight.

There are also plenty of beautiful holiday houses to admire as paddling by, before stopping for refreshments and then paddling back to Picton and arriving at the foreshore.

Terms & Conditions

  • This tour is suitable for any level of experience, even those that have never kayaked before.
  • An average level of fitness is required to enjoy this trip. You may feel a little tired in your shoulders after a day’s paddling, but there are stops along the way and the pace is gentle.
  • There is a minumum age requirement of 16 years.
  • Hotel transfers and meals are not included.
  • This tour operates with a minimum of 6 and a maxmum of 8 adults.
  • What to bring: Sunhats, sunscreen, sunglasses, t-shirt and shorts for warmer weather, polypropylene or wool clothing for cooler weather (not cotton), windproof jacket (paddling jackets are provided but not windproof), camera (dry bags are provided for cameras), shoes or sandals suitable for getting wet, swimming costume and towel.
