Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise from Te Anau

Cruise across Lake Manapouri, traverse New Zealand's most expensive road and then enjoy one of the most picturesque cruises on the planet on this day tour of Fjordland National Park, an intoxicating, untouched paradise.

When you discover Doubtful Sound you will be struck by its silence – a silence broken only by birdsong or the rushing of a distant waterfall and its beauty and vastness will take your breath away.

Your day begins in Manapouri with a cruise across the picturesque Lake Manapouri followed by a trip across New Zealand's most expensive road over Wilmot Pass.

You will pause along the way to experience the dense Fiordland rainforest and get your first view of the majestic Doubtful Sound glistening far below.

Next, board a spacious, purpose built catamaran Patea Explorer for a three hour cruise exploring the serene and isolated fiord that is Doubtful Sound. At 421 metres deep, Doubtful is the deepest of the fiords and is long and winding with three distinct 'arms' and several outstanding waterfalls in the area from Deep Cove to the open ocean, a distance of around 40.4 kilometres. During the voyage, knowledgeable and friendly nature guides will share with you their passion for the region through their commentary. and answer questions, point out landmarks and provide you with information about the varied wildlife you may encounter like dolphins, fur seals and the rare Fiordland crested penguin.

A highlight of the itinerary is when the vessel's engines are turned off and passengers are treated to the 'sound of silence' before re-tracing your journey back to Te Anau.
