Best of Renaissance and Medieval Florence Walking Tour

Maximise your time in Florence and spend the morning discovering the city with a passionate local Guide. See Ponte Vecchio, the famous "jewels bridge", explore a local market and admire Florence’s most beautiful Churches, Palaces, Streets and Squares.

Your tour will begin in central Florence, where you will meet your local guide and set off exploring the city’s highlights on foot.

With your engaging local guide start from San Lorenzo square, where you will find the Medici Chapels and the Basilica of S. Lorenzo, the church of the Medici family. Visit the elegant cloister, designed by Brunelleschi, the architect of the famous Dome: a green oasis of peace in the heart of the Medici district.

See Piazza del Duomo, where you can admire the impressive Cathedral with the Cupola del Brunelleschi, Giotto's bell tower and the Baptistery of S. John with the Gates of Paradise. Next, proceed to the picturesque Mercato della Paglia (Straw Market), home to the famous Fontana del Porcellino. Not too far away, there is the elegant Piazza della Signoria, a great "outdoor sculpture museum", dominated by the imposing Palazzo Vecchio.

Continue to the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most important museums in the world. All along the way between Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery and Pitti Palace you will follow from the outside the famous Vasari Corridor which was commissioned on the occasion of the wedding between Francis I and Joan of Austria. This was built in the record time of only 5 months by Giorgio Vasari. This precious jewel served the purpose of giving the ruling family of Florence a safe passage between the seat of government and their home.

Walking along the Arno River you will pass through the Ponte Vecchio, the famous "jewels bridge" and by crossing the Old bridge (Ponte Vecchio), you will reach the wonderful Pitti Palace.

Your final stop of the tour is the medieval quarters, where Dante Alighieri (the great Poet of the “Divine Comedy”) and Beatrice lived. Here, you will also find the beautiful Badia Fiorentina with the characteristic exagonal tower and the austere Bargello Palace.
