Based on Victor Hugo’s brilliant novel set in 19th century France, the multi-award winning Les Miserables follows the story of Jean Valjean, condemned to serve nineteen years of hard labour for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his starving family. When released on parole, he finds himself outcast and viewed with hate and suspicion. However, the actions of the kindly Bishop of Digne have a massive affect on Valjean who decides to break his parole and start life anew only to find himself pursued by the virtuous police inspector Javert.
