Childless Mrs Lyons knows that her cleaning lady, Mrs Johnstone is in financial desperation and convinces her to give up one of her newly born twin sons. Good cannot come from this secret pact and despite attempts to keep the brothers from discovering one another’s true identities, their lives become inescapably linked and her secrecy leads them to a tragic ending.
