The Palace of Versailles was originally a small hunting lodge built by King Louis XIII in 1623. He liked the building so much, that his Royal Engineer and architect, was instructed to enlarge the site. This work was carried on by King Louise IV and what resulted was one of the most prestigious and spectacular residences in the whole of Europe. Today, the palace remains just as spectacular and her architects and decorators, such as such as Le Vau, Mansart and Le Notre remain famous to this day.
With your audio tour you can discover this dazzling royal residence. Wander through the beautifully decorated State Apartments and the famous French gardens enjoying the informal commentary through your headset. Some of the highlights include the Great Royal Apartments – bedrooms of both King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette and the Hall of Mirrors. The world-famous gardens are alone worth the visit to Versailles alone.
