Overview

Follow the Tea Route into rural Mauritius and uncover the traditional side of island. After a scenic drive through the countryside you arrive at the impressive Domaine des Aubineaux. Built in 1872, this wonderfully preserved house is one of few remaining colonial houses of the high plateaux and as you stroll through the grounds and down its grand corridors it is easy to imagine what it would have been like at its height years ago. From here, head to Bois-Cheri, the centre of the tea industry in Mauritius. Enjoy a guided tour of the Tea Museum where and learn about the history of tea-making and then you will be taken into the traditional tea factory to witness the processing of tea leaves first hand.

A sumptuous lunch is served at the Le Saint Aubin, a beautifully preserved plantation house that dates back to 1819 and then enjoy a relaxing drive through some of the island’s most beautiful countryside to visit some of the vanilla and anthurium lily plantations that are found in the south of the island. The final visit of the day takes you to a rum factory where you can sample the traditional distilled rum and also enjoy a refreshing cup of tea. The unique teas and rum sampled during the day can be purchased should you wish to take home a reminder of your Tea Route experience.
