Depart Munich and first visit Linderhof, the smallest of Bavaria’s three royal castles which was originally built by King Ludwig II during the 19th century as a hunting lodge. There is a fantastic grotto and a Moorish pavilion, and there is ample time to take a guided tour of the interior (optional, not included in tour price). After leaving Linderhof there will be a short shopping stop in Oberammergau, famous for its wood carving tradition and uniquely painted houses. Travel onto towards Neuschwanstein and upon first glimpse it will be obvious why this neo-Romanesque castle is probably the most well known in the world and earned its original owner King Ludwig II a reputation as an eccentric. Set on top of a hill this castle truly is the stuff of fairytales, and as we spend 4 hours here there will be plenty of time to explore it and take a guided tour of the interior if you wish (optional, not included in tour price).
