We booked this trip before we left Scotland as with three children and only a short amount of time in Cairo, we wanted to have trips planned. We went in the morning to escape the heat of the day and were collected from our hotel by our driver and knowlegeable guide. The drive didn't take too long and the pyramids were suddenly there in front of us, rising up out of the dust. We were all completely taken aback by their size and it's impossible to describe the way you feel when you're there - they are SO huge and SO awe-inspiring we could hardly believe it. We were all entertained by our guide's tales of mystery and intrigue surrounding their construction and discovery by Carter many years later. The amount of human labour that went into the building of them defies belief and is in fact a very humbling thought. Anyway, we spent several hours exploring and taking pictures and appreciating the sheer vastness of the place. After some cheerful exchanges with a few camels and their owners, we headed back to Cairo and the comfort of our hotel pool. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Cairo - it was great for all of us and I'd do it again. The only thing I was disappointed with was the litter - you cannot fail to come across an empty crisp packet or whatever flapping away - and there is lots of it. As a UNESCO world heritage site, much more care should be ataken to preserve this special place for generations to come.

I would absolutely recommend this trip, the pyramids were amazing and our guide really brought the site to life. When I saw some of the large tour groups I felt really smug that we had our guide all to ourselves.
