Journey along the Frankincense Trail, an ancient route cut through the desert by caravans of camels in search of the ‘golden resin’ that was then taken to trading posts in Oman and beyond. Used for perfume, medicine, and to embalm corpses, frankincense was highly sort after and the frankincense harvested in Dhofar is rated the best in the world. This fascinating drive takes you through wonderful scenery including plains, mountains and emerald green pastureland where the stark shape of leafless Frankincense Trees dot the landscape.
Visit the tomb of biblical prophet ‘Nabi Ayoub’ or ‘Job’ and then proceed to Mughsail Beach, famous for its blow-holes – perforations in the limestone rock where sea water gushes through at high tide. From here, enjoy a scenic drive along the Hairpin Bend Roads to a hidden wadi with breathtaking panoramic views of the region. There is a final visit to a nearby bird sanctuary before the scenic drive back to your hotel.
