Begin your excursion from Te Anau with a scenic cruise across Lake Te Anau, New Zealand’s second lake covering 344 square km. On the lake’s western shore you will disembark and visit Cavern House, a museum where there is plenty for you to learn about the history of the caves and the glowworms that call them home.
After your visit to the museum your guide will take you into the caves where you will explore the limestone caverns on foot and then glide on a small punt through the shadowy waterways of the grottos, passing vast limestone caverns and waterfalls. Thousands of tiny glow worms light up the cave roof above and reflect of the water, creating a galaxy of iridescent lights which has to be seen to be believed.
