After an early morning departure from Sharm El Sheikh, head across the desert to Mount Sinai, where Moses is said to have received the Table of Law and the Ten Commandments from god. Here, you will find the fascinating St Catherine Monastery, the defining feature of the holy land. Said to be built on the site of the Burning Bush, the monastery dates from the 6th century and is still home to several monks.

Included is a visit to the church of St Catherine’s with its many artworks and mosaics. In the library of the monastery there are many many manuscripts and scrolls and even if you are not here for the religious history, you will never experience anything like this in the whole of the world as its importance is second to only the Vatican itself. Many tourists take photographs of the site of the burning bush and the day is filled with centuries of history. Lunch is taken in the restaurant in the area of the Monastery. Guides taking this trip are fully informed and knowledgeable and are able to answer any questions that you have about the history of St Catherine and the site. Mid afternoon, you leave St Catherine’s and return to your hotel via Dahab, an unspoilt fishing village to do a spot of shopping.

Dress covering arms, shoulders and legs should be adhered to in order to enter the monastery, for both men and women. A sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a bottle of water are also recommended.
