Located on the west coast of Iceland, Snæfellsnes peninsula has been referred to as ‘Iceland in Miniature’ as it is home to some of Iceland’s best natural sights. It has also recently gained the distinction of being only the 4th place worldwide and the first in Europe to be awarded Green Globe 21 certification for environmental sustainability.
Your day begins with a drive to bustling fishing town Olafsvik, before heading further west to visit Arnarstapi which will be a nature lovers highlight as it is home to extraordinary shores and landscape and there will be time to spend hiking and bird watching along the precipitous shoreline. The journey continues into the National Park where there are more opportunities to see amazing beaches and abundant wildlife, and the landscape is dotted with craters and lava formations - evidence of ancient volcanic eruptions. You will see Snæfellsjökull glacier, which is a dormant volcano and attracts thousands of visitors each year, some who return regularly to soak up its energy radiation, as they believe it to be one of the earth’s seven energy spots. On the way back to Reykjavik you will visit the picturesque Stykkishólmur village which is set by the shores of Breiðafjörður bay.
