A scenic drive through the mountains brings you to the beautiful town of Ronda. One of the oldest settlements in Spain, this historic city is renowned for its remarkable setting on a plateau split by the dramatic El Tajo gorge. The sheer cliffs plunge 100m into the chasm below dividing the city in two – on one side your will find the old Moorish settlement and El Mercadillo the more modern part on the other. Your tour starts with a visit to the 18th century Puente Nuevo 'new' bridge, which straddles the gorge and offers unparalleled views out over the Serranía de Ronda Mountains. Also see the delightful cathedral which has been shaped by Roman, Moorish and Gothic influences and the Old Quarter which is characterised by cobbled streets and handsome town houses. Your tour concludes at the Plaza de Toros Maestranza, famous for its Goyaesque bullfighting – this is the oldest bullring in Spain and widely recognised as the birth place of modern bull fighting. Your afternoon is at leisure to explore the rest of the town at your own pace before returning to the coast.
