This Phillip Island day tour covers everything from kangaroos to koalas, parrots to penguins and wombats to worms, all explained to you by an expert on native Australian wildlife, giving you a full appreciation of the many amazing species.
After a midday departure from Melbourne, travel through the city’s south-eastern suburbs and onward through the fertile farming lands of the Gippsland region. You’ll enjoy a visit to a boutique regional winery, where you will learn a little about the wine-making process as well as sample their cool climate wines. Continue to a regional fauna park where you can meet lots of your favourite furry Aussie friends. You’ll enjoy a guided tour of the park with the chance to get up close with kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, emus, wombats and even Tasmanian Devils. A highlight is an opportunity to cuddle a baby wombat and the chance to hand feed the friendly kangaroos.
From here you travel on to Phillip Island itself with a chance to visit the spectacular Cape Woolamai Surf Beach and appreciate the powerful swells of the Southern Ocean as they pound relentlessly at the island’s southern coastline. Proceed to the south-west tip of the island where there is time time to wander the scenic boardwalks that cling to the coastal contours. Panoramic views include the Nobbies, rugged rocky outcrops abundant in marine life, and Seal Rocks, home of Australia’s largest population of fur seals.
And then it’s onwards to the main event. Just after dark the world’s smallest penguins waddle ashore after spending the day fishing out at sea. You’ll be truly enchanted as the stars of the show emerge from the surf and pass right before your eyes on their journey back to their homes. Your guide will ensure you are able to get the very best vantage point to enjoy the Penguin Parade and will help to keep you toasty warm with a complimentary hot cuppa.
PENGUINS PLUS: For an exclusive viewing experience, upgrade to the more personalised 'Penguins Plus' viewing platform. With numbers limited to 150, you’ll enjoy special ranger interpretation in a more natural setting. This option also includes a complimentary hot beverage.
After the parade there is plenty of time to explore the Visitor Centre before beginning the journey back to Melbourne. The personal video service on board your coach allows you to enjoy a movie of your choice on your individual entertainment unit.
