Parker Ranch, a fully operational farming range sits under the imposing watch of Mauna Kea in some 150,000 acres of lush green pastures.- Horseback trail ride
Parker Ranch, a fully operational farming range sits under the imposing watch of Mauna Kea in some 150,000 acres of lush green pastures. Farming rituals and procedures have not changed dramatically here for 150 years and it is impossible to visit without feeling a pang of romanticism for the old Wild West. Now is your chance however to taste a little of that Pioneer spirit, as you saddle up and make like a Hawaiian Paniolo (Cowboy to you and me).
The grandeur of the surrounds does not escape you as the trek begins at the blacksmiths shop heading on out through those rolling hills to the Stone Corrals, where as many as 5000 Hereford cattle were once held after being driven down from the slopes of Mauna Kea. The trail leads on to more historical sites, including the Red Track where famous Parker Ranch thoroughbreds were trained and still hold World records for speed.
The trail routes do sometimes vary, but splendid scenery and a magnificent steed are a constant factor. All abilities are catered for, and the minimum age is seven years, so this great activity is a delightful and thrilling way for just about everyone to get back to nature.
