Overview

Take a walk through Valencia’s past and discover her beautiful squares and historic buildings as your guide provides an amazing insight into the history and culture of the city. The tour starts in pretty Plaza de la Reina where you can view the beautiful architecture of the thirteenth century cathedral, rumoured to be the home of the Holy Grail. Also see the ‘Miquelet’, the city’s most famous bell tower. Continue through the Plaza de la Virgen where you will see the gothic doors of the cathedral, the Turia Fountain and the Roman Museum. From here, explore the narrow atmospheric streets of the old town full of beautiful old buildings which belonged to the medieval noble families. See Plaza del Patriarca, a monumental Renaissance courtyard and the exquisite façade of Palacio del Marques, a brilliant example of rococo architecture dating from the 16th century.

One of the undoubted highlights of the tour is La Lonja de la Seda de Valencia, a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. This UNESCO World Heritage site dates from the 15th century and was originally used for trading silk. The lavish interior illustrates the wealth and power of the city at the time. Opposite the La Lonja is the central market, believed to be one of the oldest in Europe. Today it remains as lively as ever and is a great place to shop for fresh produce including fruit, vegetables and cured meat.
