Located on the Mississippi River between the historic Louisiana cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Oak Alley Plantation has been called the "Grande Dame of the Great River Road". It is now a National Historic Landmark and is a magnificent example of the past glory of the Old South, a bygone era of gracious living when life was simple and Southern hospitality was king.
Completed in 1839, the mansion on Oak Alley is now the most photographed plantation home in the world and is characterized by high ceilings, large windows, a symmetrical facade and interior plan, and a 2nd-floor gallery for viewing purposes. You will marvel at the quarter-mile canopy of giant live oak trees, believed to be nearly 300 years old, which form an impressive avenue leading to the classic Greek-revival style antebellum home.
Your guide will enlighten you with fascinating stories of the home and its history, and snacks and refreshments will be available for you to purchase and enjoy on the picnic tables.
