Start the day at one of New York’s oldest Jewish delis and a chance to sample the city’s best knish.  As you walk through Lower East Side your guide will provide insight into tenement buildings that housed thousands of immigrants.  Although the neighborhood is shrinking in size, Little Italy still holds on to the Old Country heritage that gave rise to one of NY’s most recognized cultures.  Strolling narrow, cobblestone streets beneath the fire escapes of turn-of-the-century tenements, explore authentic Italian grocery stores, perhaps taste gelato, and get the scoop on a few mob sites from the past. 

New York’s Chinatown offers ample opportunity to meander markets for exotic vegetables, tea service sets, and other traditional items, as well as current kitsch.  Taste traditional Chinese snacks and mingle with the locals at a neighborhood bakery or dumpling house.  Explore the Chinese influence on NY’s history and culture during the walk of narrow lanes, Chatham Square, and Mahayana Buddhist temple.

Finish at the Chambers St subway station, surrounded by impressive architecture of several historic civic structures and fantastic views of the Brooklyn Bridge.
