Your day begins with a scenic drive along the coastal road of the Saronic Gulf, passing the famous Corinth Canal which was completed in 1893. The tour pauses here for a brief photo stop before continuing on to Mycenae, widely renowned as the most important archaeological site of the mainland. Homer described the ancient city as a ‘City rich in gold’ and it was here that the Golden Mask of Agamemnon was unearthed along with many other treasures that exactly matched Homer’s descriptions in the Iliad. You enter the city by the magnificent Lion’s Gate and stroll up to Agamemnon’s Royal Palace. Accompanied by your guide, explore the imposing ruins which date back as far as 1600BC.
In the afternoon, you continue to the small village of Epidaurus, the reputed birthplace of Apollo's son Asklepios, the healer and the most celebrated healing centre of the classical world. Here you will see most famous theatre of ancient Greece at Epidaurus, renowned for its amazing acoustics (a result of the Greeks' high technical knowledge at the time) which is still in use today.
