At nearly 14,000 feet, the summit is above about 40% of the Earth’s atmosphere and 90% of water vapor allowing for exceptionally clear images on up to 300 nights per year. Mauna Kea is both the worlds’ tallest Volcano and the worlds’ tallest mountain, although as nearly 20,000 feet of it is under the Pacific Ocean it bequeaths the title of “highest” to other peaks. On your way to the summit, enjoy the clarity of the famous Hawaiian skies and be taken on an intriguing and provocative journey through space where you will learn about the remarkable evolution that the island’s natural world has experienced.
