Your first major sight is Haleakala, ‘House of the Sun’, the largest dormant volcano in the world. Dramatic changes in climate, mood and vegetation occur as the road winds upward for 37 miles and swaying tropical palms give way to pines, eucalyptus, and giant redwoods. Rising over ten thousand feet high, Haleakala's crater looks like the moon, with flanks that form rainforest, farmland, deep gulches and vertical canyons. Haleakala National Park is around the size of London and some of the wildlife and plants found there are found nowhere else on Earth. It’s an amazing experience.

Your next stop is Iao Valley - the broad green plain between the magnificently sculpted Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains) and the massive slopes of Haleakala. Few places in Hawaii are more sacred.  Your final stop, Lahaina, is like a pretty New England whaling town, surrounded by mountains and filled with palm.
