After a pick-up from your hotel, head for Thailand’s infamous Golden Triangle area, once notorious for its opium production. While the opium trade has now all but disappeared, it is a beautiful and colourful place to visit and the meeting point of Thailand, Burma and Laos. The beautiful Mae Kong River is one of its best natural attractions and one of the longest rivers in the world.
From the boat landing point in the Golden Triangle, enjoy a leisurely 45 minute cruise along this mighty river taking in the scenic views of jungle, hills, villages and temples. The cruise takes you to the old capital city of Chiang Saen, to visit its ancient, ruins and temples. Visit Chiang Saen Museum to learn about it’s volatile past - during the long history of conflict between the Siamese and Burmese kingdoms, possession of Chiang Saen passed back and forth and was even levelled in the 1804 to remove any Burmese temptation to retake the city. Also visit the beautiful Temple of Wat Pa Sak Ngarm, and the Temple of Wat Phra Thad Jom Kitti which proudly overlooks the Mekong River.
