Lantau Island is almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island. Yet only 88,000 people live there (compared to Hong Kong’s 1.5 million) and more than half the surface of the island is a designated country park. Archaeologists believe that the island has been inhabited for 3000 years - well before the arrival of the Han Chinese.
So enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of the city by boarding the Deluxe Class of public ferry for a scenic cruise to this haven of peace. It takes you past Sulphur Channel, Green Island and other outer islands and lands in Silvermine Bay on Lantau Island. Upon arrival, you are met by a local guide who accompanies you to Cheung Sha Beach, Shek Pik Reservoir, the tranquil Tai O Fishing Village. Finally you visit the celebrated Po Lin Monastery for a fascinating tour.
Afterwards, you are taken to view the largest outdoor bronze seated Buddha in the world, which is situated high in the mountains. It’s a truly awesome spectacle. A six-course traditional Chinese vegetarian lunch is served at the refectory before you return to Hong Kong Island by ferry.
