This was my first and probably one and only trip to New Zealand so I wanted to get it right as regards to trips etc, not knowing where to start my friend recommended Do Something different.com so I called them up and they were so helpful and gave me some ideas as to what I could do etc. I decided to go for it and booked the Hot Air Ballooning. Well all I can say Is Wow! The day before I had to re confirm flight and check the weather but the forecast was good so flight was a GO. It was an early start but I did not mind I was so excited. Once at the sight we all help unrolling the balloon, laying it out on the ground, and holding the edges while it filled up with air, then we were ready to go. There was a little wind and there was a slight bump as we lifted from the ground, as we watched the ground move away it was funny to see everything getting smaller and smaller sheep, cows, and trees as we rose higher. Once right up all we could see were acres and acres of Canterbury Plains, Southern Alps, with bits of snow still sticking onto the tops, stretched out in one direction, and we could see the ocean in the distance . We were in the air about for about 50 minutes we were ready to find a landing spot we landed and our pilot guided the basket to a field that had no cows; all the nearby ones had masses of them Once we were down and we all got out it of the basket all that was left was rolling up the balloon and packing up, then we had champagne while being presented with the flight certificate, then we had to wait for the bus to find us and pick us up. They dropped us back at our hotel. What a way to start my New Zealand trip —seeing the sights of the Canterbury plains and catching a view of the Southern Alps. It was the best trip ever. excellant and I would so love to do it again.
