Your private tour commences with a scenic drive through the rugged mountains, passing date plantations and sparkling springs en route to the village of Nakhl. Here, you will see the magnificent Nakhl Fort, widely considered to be one of the most impressive in Oman. Set on a hill top over looking the town, this historic fort is considered to date back to the pre-Islamic period and was considered to be impenetrable by local tribes in ancient times. The carved master gate dates back to the 1830's during the reign of Sayyid Said bin Sultan.
Also see the local hot springs before continuing to Rustaq (about 55km Southwest of Nakhl), an ancient capital city and major trading centre. See Rustaq Fort which dates from four centuries prior to the dawn of Islam (around 6 B.C.) in Oman. Built on three levels, the complex contains separate houses, an armoury, a mosque, several wells, Bayadha mosque and the tomb of late Imam/Sultan bin Seif (Qaidh Al Ardh). On your way back to Muscat, enjoy a photo stop at Al Hazam Fort, famous for its two large watchtowers.
