Akha villages are distinguished by their carved wooden gates, presided over by guardian spirits and their raised houses. The Yao prefer to live among low hills near dense forest and their houses sit on the ground. Each house contains a small shrine dedicated to their ancestors and to the guardian spirit they believe to inhabit each individual house.

Here you will enjoy a buffet lunch at a local restaurant and there is a chance to explore the bustling market place. This area was once notorious for opium production and here you will visit the Opium Museum to learn more about this intriguing trade and the local area history. The tour finishes with a visit to the old capital city of Chiang Saen, to visit its ancient, ruins and temples.
