Your tour starts with a visit to the lively vegetable and fish markets of the Rialto, Explore the many stalls and relive the days when the Rialto was the commercial centre of the Venetian Empire. At an old prison you'll learn how the Venetians treated Tax Evaders in the past and also hear tales of the illustrious Merchants of Venice. Then take a guided walk through the labyrinth of narrow streets and passageways in the old artisans’ quarter where picture postcard images seem to lurk around every corner. You will see some of the oldest houses in Venice, quaint picturesque bridges and palatial Palaces all hidden away on the back-streets of the San Polo district of Venice. Also hear about the legend of the Hunchback of San Giacomo Church and learn about the trading history of Venice and luxurious commodities that were traded by the Venetians. The route will also take you to the old red-light district of Casteletto, where the Merchants of Venice would sojourn at locanda's and encounter the famous Venetian courtesans. You pause to admire the notorious ‘Ponte delle Tette’, so named because in old times the Venetian courtesans were enforced by law to display their worldly goods to passing trade. The tour concludes with a visit to the Frari Church that houses masterpieces by Titian, Bellini & Canova.
