Renowned as the ‘Paris of the East’, Hanoi is one of Asia’s most delightful cities. Rich in culture and history this diverse city draws its influences from both French and Chinese culture. Your day starts by visiting the Ho Chi Minh Complex. Built in 1975 the site is situated in the middle of landscaped parkland and contains Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum, his former stilt-house residence, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh museum. The tour continues with a visit to the fascinating Temple of Literature founded in 1070 and site of the first university created to educate Vietnam's administrative and warrior’s class. Stroll through the temple’s five courtyards which would have originally only been used by the emperor and his Mandarins.
Enjoy lunch at one of Hanoi’s finest restaurants before continuing to the Museum of Ethnology situated in the Can Giay District. Widely regarded as the best museum in Vietnam it features a reconstructed tribal house as well as black and white photos and videos giving you an insight of the 54 different ethnic communities living in Vietnam. From here, you will then be transported to the 13th century, as you visit the Ngoc Son Temple found on a tiny island on the Hoan Kiem Lake. The lake is considered the most beautiful lake in Hanoi and the source of many legends. To reach the island you must cross the Huc Bridge which literally means the ‘Place Touched by Morning Sunbeams’.
The tour concludes with an hour long cyclo ( the Vietnamese version of a rickshaw pronounced see-clo), tour through the Old Quarter. This remains one of the most popular ways to travel and is perfect for taking in the lively atmosphere of the crowded streets which are named after the goods being sold … from Fish Street to Bamboo Street and everything in between.
