If you can face the prospect of an early rise and, dare we say it, exercise at this time of the day, then you're in for a bit of a treat! Nowhere else on earth can you experience the thrill of biking downhill while descending 10,000 feet.

You will be collected early from your hotel whilst dark and taken to the summit of the massive Haleakala Volcano, 10,023 feet above sea level. The adventure begins far above the clouds (dress warmly, it’s 30-50°F cooler at the summit), where you'll take in awe-inspiring views from the rim of Haleakala’s massive volcanic crater. After a safety orientation and bike/gear fitting, you’re ready to roll—down the planet’s grandest coaster—through over 200 twists and turns and countless visual wonders. There are many stops along the way to view and photograph the incredible scenery, learn about Haleakala’s history and lore, and eat a delicious meal. If the weather does not turn out as good as hoped, then you will have a wetter but no less memorable tour!  Rain gear will be issued and you can enjoy the fresh mist on your face as you descend through the clouds.   

The sheer diversity of landscapes along the way is breathtaking.  You will observe desert, shrubland, grassland, bogs, dryland forest, cloudforest, rainforest and coast before arriving at your finishing post, the town of Paia.  The tour leader will ride up-front with those in pole position and the chase van driver attentively follows the last person.

Practically the entire 38-mile/10,000-foot paved route is effortless downhill coasting.
