Travel to the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Monument Valley with expert guides skilled in the geology, culture and history of these three regions and their inhabitants. The route to the Grand Canyon takes you past Lake Mead and over the manmade Hoover Dam. Here your guide will stop to give you the chance to take photographs and admire the views. Leaving Hoover Dam you’ll head towards the Grand Canyon, passing through a small Arizona town named Kingman. The first major stop will be Mather Point, the deepest part of the Grand Canyon, followed by a visit to Bright Angel Lodge, where there are many great views. At the lodge you’ll have the opportunity to get yourself something to eat, buy souvenirs, and take some spectacular photographs.
You’ll climb into a small plane for a flight over the Grand Canyon, before flying east over some beautiful scenery en route to Monument Valley. At the Valley you will enjoy a wonderful view of rock formations from the air, before landing at the airport. The tour of Monument Valley is conducted by a Navajo Indian guide in an off road vehicle. Visitors love to see the buttes, mesas and other sandstone formations that are so prevalent in the Monument Valley area. Monument Valley is actually not really a valley at all, but a relatively flat plain surrounded by red cliffs, remnants of ancient volcanoes and rock formations towering from the earth.
You will experience the authentic West as your guide takes you into the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and you’ll learn about Navajo customs and traditions along the way. As you might imagine there are numerous photo opportunities and your guide will stop frequently for you to explore various sites. You’ll see movie locations, 1000 foot monoliths, rug weaving and all the famous monuments.
Your Navajo guide will drop you off at the small Monument Valley air strip for a flight to Bryce Canyon. The desert and rock formations underneath are beautiful, you’ll also fly over the Colorado River as it passes through the Glen Canyon National Recreation area.
Many who have seen both Bryce Canyon and the Grand Canyon find Bryce far more fascinating, however Bryce isn’t actually a canyon, but a large amphitheatre carved out of a variety of rock types. You’ll marvel at the irregular shaped hoodoos in an amazing array of colourful hues and tour all three of the main view points, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Each point is more spectacular than the last and your guide will allocate time for you to leave the bus, walk around and explore the magic. Before leaving Bryce you’ll take a short souvenir stop at the Visitor Centre. At the end of this fully comprehensive trip you should feel extremely proud of your North American adventure.
