A three hour ramble which takes in the decaying riverside Kasbah of a once powerful feudal chieftain.  The nesting storks pay little respect to the history of this old palace-fortress, but the romantic ruins still retain some traces of grandeur in the original Hispano-Arabesque decoration.  The trek continues to past the castle of Agadir n’Gouf which became an outpost of the French Foreign Legion in the 1920’s and crosses the hauntingly beautiful Valley of ljoukak before arriving at the small remote stronghold settlement of Tin Mal. 

The Mosque is the sole survivor of a once holy 12^th Century City and only one of two in the whole of Morocco into which non-Muslims may enter (except on Fridays).  Although the Mosque is now roofless, this only adds to the mystery and austerity of the place and the warm sun casts strong shadows from the horseshoe arches creating a playground for any photographer.A riverside picnic lunch is included on the return journey along with glimpses of further ruins on this thoroughly enjoyable and evocative hike.

Although hiking does involve some effort, this tour is generally easy-grade walking. The route follows paths that are sometimes rocky.
