Overview
Embrace nature on this day-long excursion to the Doi Intanon National Park. Situated just 35 miles from Chang Mai, the park is a natural treasure trove and home to Thailand’s highest (and most preserved) peak Doi Intanon, which stands 8514 feet above sea level. The slopes of the mountains are covered in moist evergreen forest, pine forest and mixed deciduous forest and the area is also a bird-lovers paradise with more than 383 reported species (although you will have a hard time spotting all of them!). The drive to the summit alone is hugely rewarding and on arrival you will be greeted by breathtaking mountain views and clouds beneath your feet. There will be time to take a short trek along Michael’s Trail and you will also have the chance to see the shrine of Chao Inthawitchayanon, the former prince of Chiang Mai. After a picnic-style lunch, head to the Wachiratharn Waterfall where you can see water thundering down a granite escarpment creating a beautiful mist and a permanent rainbow. The tour also stops at the Wat Phrathad Chom Thong with its holy relic and ancient treasures and the twin pagodas honouring the King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit.
Casual. Dress according to the weather for that day. Due to the high altitude of the park, the temperature is cool year round, so a light jumper (summer) and a coat (winter) is recommended as well as a sturdy pair of shoes.
