Take this wonderful journey through hillside Vineyards and across the beautiful Gulf of Naples to Mount Vesuvius to discover the amazing history of Pompeii, the legendary town destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

You will travel to Pompeii along the Highway of the Sun passing hillsides completely covered by vineyards, ancient medieval villages and the ruined Abbey of Monte Cassino which was destroyed in the Second World War.  You will also have the chance to take some photos at the Castel dell’Ovo, which in English means the Egg Castle. Your journey will then take you through the centre of Naples where you can admire some of her fantastic and historical sights including the Royal Palace, San Carlo Opera House, Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, Castel Nuovo and the Gallery of Umberto. From here, you head across the Valley of Mount Vesuvius passing through the villages of Herculaneum, Torre del Greco and Torre Annunziata before you arrive in Pompeii where you will stop for lunch. 

 

 In the afternoon, enjoy a 2 hour walking tour of Pompeii with a guide, who will take you on a thrilling archaeological journey through the ancient ruins from Rome’s Imperial age at this UNESCO sight and you will be able to imagine how those that lived in Pompeii almost 2000 years ago felt when Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the entire city. 

 

Depart for Rome at about 5.30pm. On your journey back to Rome, you will have the opportunity to purchase some goods as you stop at a traditional coral and cameo factory which dates back to the Greek period.
