Overview

Travel on the metro to the old part of Delhi with your local guide.  There's a chance to kick start the trip with a cup of chai before diving into the sights, sounds and smells of Old Delhi.  This part of town includes street food, vibrant bazaars, temples and living historical sites which you will visit.  There is plenty of opportunities to stop and sample some famous Indian Chat (street snacks) from a local vendor.  Goods on offer range from wedding paraphernalia to chains of Marigolds.  Walk through narrow alleyways to visit the people, sites and smells of Old Delhi and no two trips will be the same as there is always something happening in this part of town, your local guide will take us on a real life experience which allows us to lose ourselves.  For lunch you stop at the very famous paratha wali gali and taste delicious stuffed fried bread, with fresh creamy curd and homemade pickles.  This is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach as the fresh ingredients are flipped over tawa (hot plates).

Other stops include significant historical sites linked to the 1857 Mutiny (also known as India's First War of Independence) which was ruthlessly put down by British colonial forces and was a precursor to a later more peaceful struggle for independence led by Mahatma Gandhi in the early 1900's. Also visit local temples dedicated to the various Hindu gods where our local guide will give us an insight into the religion of Hinduism.  At the end of the trip you are free for personal exploration or alternatively your local guide can assist with arranging a taxi back to your hotel.

Dress Code/What to Bring
Dress standards are conservative throughout Asia, especially outside major cities. To respect this and for your own comfort, we strongly recommend modest clothing. This means clothing that covers your shoulders and knees. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool in the predominantly hot Asian climate.
