It is rather an under statement to say we like South African wines, so when we saw this tour of Cape winelands on Do Something different it was a must do. There was a group of us so it was a rather good day out and we did learn alot about the production of the wine. As we got nearer to the vineyards all you could see was the vines stretching for what looked like miles. All along the road as we travelled to Stellenbosch were flags with names of the vineyards and we noticed one that Waitrose stock the wines. When we arrived at Stellenbosch we were taken to The Vergelegen Winery and not only did we get to taste some of the wine but to have a look at the cellar which is really so huge that it is hard to imagine how many bottles that they can get out of all the barrels that were in there. The guide told us that the cellar had been sunk vertically into the hilltop just like one of the baddie's headquarters in a Bond film. The view from this winery is out of this world and we could see Table mountain. It seems they don't always stop at this winery so we were really lucky and the wine wasn't that bad either. The only problem was that lunch wasn't included in the tour but when we went into the town there was enough good restaurants to have quite an impressive lunch with of course a glass of wine. Some of the men on the return coach journey had a few cat naps but I was pleased that I stayed awake because the views were really something else and what a contrast the homesteads of the CAQPE d
