What a wonderful introduction to beautiful Cape Town! Our brilliant guide, Dieter, collected us on the dot of 9 and we drove directly to Hout Bay. There we had the option to take a boat to see the seals (not included in the tour) which we did, to an extremely large seal colony just off the coast. We then headed off to the Cape of Good Hope (previously known as the Cape of Storms) and Cape Point. It was a stunning, sunny day and the views from the lighthouse were spectacular. Dieter was incredibly informative and knowledgeable and regaled us with funny stories en route back to Cape Town through Kalk Bay and Simonstown. We stopped off for a sandwich and to see the famous statue of 'Just Nuisance' who was the British Navy's mascot - a statuesque Great Dane. We learned that Kipling composed his famous poem 'If' in Simonstown and that Cecil Rhodes had had a house there. We were back in town by 1pm having had an extremely fun and interesting morning which was a great way to start our South African adventure! Big thank you Dieter and everyone at Do Something Different for an excellent trip! Tigger.
