We had been to a very small winery in Austria and we wanted to see how it was done in California. As we stayed Mandarin Oriental hotel we were able to walk to the departure point at Taylor street. Our driver was quite a character and kept us amused the whole trip and he also gave us very useful information about the best place to have lunch at Vintage 1870.The journey seemed to be over very quickly through some very scenic areas of Napa and Somona. We liked the idea of seeing both large and small wineries but in the end I much preferred the smaller ones the others were to high tec and to my mind the wine tasted much better from the smaller ones.Vintage 1870 was a little bit to twee very much for the American public but the food was very good and we did have enough time to have a look around. The return trip through the Silverado trail was most enjoyable and the scenes just went on and on,it really is a big area of open scenic land as it must have been years ago. Then to end the trip coming back in to San Francisco over the Golden gatre bridge was really something else.It really is a trip for wine buffs or for anyone who likes seeing the countryside.
