Shanghai has found itself with a selection of nicknames including the “Pearl of China” and 'Paris of the Orient' and Shanghai now represents modern China but is home to centuries of history and culture. This full day packed tour begins at the Jade Buddha Temple, with its beautiful architecture and invaluable jade statues. You will also be able to view the houses surrounding the temple which are inhabited by the monks. Next you will go to the Fresh Water Pearl Gallery where you will witness the pearl cultivation process and one fortunate member of the group will be presented with a single pearl from a mussel. From here you will head to a large open space in the heart of the city called the People Square which is a large green open area. Here you are able to feed the beautiful doves symbolizing a prayer for world peace.
Before the morning is over, you will pay a visit to the Shanghai Museum which is designed to agree with Feng Shui ideals. Full of collections from different eras and over 120,000 pieces, there is bound to be something that interests you. Pieces vary from paintings, bronze works, sculpture, ceramics and ancient Chinese coins and many more. You can even rent an audio phone here so that you can get the most out of this visit.
You will be able to discover attractions created during one of the most famous events in Chinese history, the Ming Dynasty; here you can see the characteristic sights of the Yuyuan Garden, yu meaning pleasing and satisfying and Shanghai Old Street. The next stop is at the Bund on Shanghai’s waterfront which portrays architecture from pre-1949. The Bund is four kilometres long and in the 1930’s the buildings were home to Shanghai’s financial and commercial centres. It is known as a must see attraction.
If you are interested in purchasing some Chinese silk which has been produced since the fourteenth century at a low price, then the stop at the silk factory is ideal where you will also be able to see how Chinese silk is made.
After a drive along the former French Concession District you will experience Shanghais trendiest new entertainment area, Xin Tian Di. The buildings here have been transformed into some of the best restaurants, boutiques and clubs. Here you will be given some time on your own or you have the option to go back to your hotel.
You will be back from this tour in plenty of time if you would like to take one of the evening programs.
