You will begin this tour by driving to the top of one of the most famous hills in Florence, the Piazzale Michelangelo where you will be able to admire the fantastic views of the city and understand why it is known as one of the most beautiful in the world. You will then taken into the old city centre for a memorable visit to the Duomo complex, the world famous cathedral of Florence with its bronze doors, Porta del Paradiso (the gates of paradise), magnificent Cupola del Brunelleschi and Giotto’s bell tower. Afterwards, a short walk through the historic streets of Florence brings you to your last stop, the renowned Galleria dell’Accademia, home to Michelangelo’s David amongst other fantastic works by popular artists.
The tour then breaks for lunch. For those who opt for the tour plus lunch option, you will be taken to a typical old restaurant in the city centre for a traditional italian lunch.
The afternoon starts with a short drive to Fiesole, a lovely town founded by the Etruscans on the hills overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley. Enjoy spectacular views, framed by the cypresses and olive groves covering the hill slopes. After driving back into Florence, we get out near the river Arno and continue on foot through the medieval streets, to the east of the old city centre, as we walk past the Franciscan Basilica of Santa Croce (where Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Galileo and many other famous people are buried) on our way to the spectacular Piazza della Signoria, where we admire the imposing Palazzo della Signoria or Palazzo Vecchio and the harmonious Loggia della Signoria, as well as the many statues by Cellini, Giambolognaand Ammannati adorning the square.
The tour continues with a guided tour of the famous Uffizi Gallery where we can follow the development of Christian painting, admiring superb works by Cimabue, Giotto,Masaccio, Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Titian. The guided tour ends inside the museum, offering you the chance to continue exploring on your own.
