Overview

You will be collected from your hotel at about 7.30 for a stimulating 1¼ hour drive south over the Gnaoua Plain, past the deep gorges of Moulay Brahim and upper Atlas before snaking down breathtaking mountainsides and past 19th Century Kasbahs to the hamlet of Tamadot.

The Barb horses will be waiting you at the Kasbah (the property of a rather well-known bearded British entrepreneur), so once you have met your companion and have saddled up, the mountain guide and horse handler will lead you off to the north overlooking the steep forested river valley of the Ait Mizane.

The easy pace takes you past various Berber hamlets until you reach the village Asni (1165m), once an important crossroads for caravan trails. From this bustling locale, you will head toward the Tizi n ’Isgane (1500m) for a sublime panorama of the high plateau and valleys, before a 30 minute gallop takes you to a picnic spot next to a Spring in the hamlet of Amass n’ Khik.

From late March to early June, the Khik Plateau is a feast for the eyes, ablaze with flowers. The return ride affords further photo opportunities before a backdrop of sand-coloured pise homes, lush valleys and groves of fig, cherry and apricot trees; a true flavour of Morocco. You should expect to get back to Marrakech at about 6.30 – 7pm.

Additional Information

Hard hats are not a requirement for Horse-riding in Morocco and if you feel more comfortable wearing one, then we advise you to take one with you. Although this is a short easy ride, it is recommended only for riders with some previous experience.
