The tour commences with a visit to the awesome UNESCO World Heritage site of Ksar Ben Haddou before continuing through the Valley of the Roses and on to the magnificent Dades Valley. Travel along a vast flood plain where the Southern horizon is blocked by the imposing sun-blasted Anti Atlas and to the north, by the jagged High Atlas mountain ranges. Further photo opportunities abound at the verdant village of Skoura where the nearby river reflects the intense blue sky, the brilliant green of the palmeraies and the red earth. Two striking monuments impose themselves on the surroundings; a couple of 17th century Kasbahs of which the government is rightly proud and proved it by printing them on the 50 dirham note!
The hike itself starts at the foot of a bluff of rock separating the two valleys of Dades and M’Goun and sets off between fields of rose bushes and a sequence of fragile, but majestic Kasbahs. Meander through a series of Berber villages to Ait Haddou n’Ait Youl where a picnic is taken. The afternoon trek is taken back through the lower valley slopes through further villages and amongst scattered groves of fig and olive trees, stark red cliffs and ochre rock formations before rejoining your vehicle for the return to Ourzazate.
